Prayer Ministry Mission Statement

The mission of our prayer ministry is to pray to the only true God, the Father, the Son, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, to teach others to pray, encourage people to pray and/ or to pray more, teach church members and others to pray, to provide prayer opportunities, and to be led by God in praying for others.

 Prayer Primer

Prayer is perhaps the most important of all the spiritual disciplines, since it is an aspect of all the other disciplines. For instance we can pray without fasting – but we should never fast without praying. This being so, one would think that praying would be the easiest and most natural thing for a Christian to do. Studies have found, however, that many find prayer to be difficult.

Below you will find a brief “Primer on Prayer.” This is only one way to pray – not the only way. As you grow in your prayer life, hopefully you will be encouraged to explore other methods of prayer.

Our hope is that you will be encouraged to make prayer an important part of your daily life, if it isn’t already. Below is a suggested outline.

Step 1 - Begin in silent meditation.
Welcome God into your heart and mind. Take the time to dwell in his
presence and don’t be too impatient to move into the conversation part of prayer. Seek God’s
will for your prayers this day. As Jesus taught   “Thy will be done” should be the prelude to our
              prayer - not the postlude.

Step 2 - Make a brief statement of faith. Acknowledge God’s presence and your belief that God
always hears and answers your prayers.

Step 3 – Talk to your heavenly Father. Jesus taught His disciples to pray “Abba”. The term a child would
use to speak to a loving parent.  Relax in His presence and tell Him what is on your mind.

This conversation should include:
Confession – Name the things that are a barrier to your relationship with God and others.

Thanksgiving – Name those things for which you are particularly grateful.

Intercession – Pray for others - not forgetting that we are called to pray for our enemies as well
                                     as those we love.

Petitions – Your personal prayer requests. Though they may have been first on your mind when
you decided to pray, they should come last, after confession, thanksgiving and intercession.

Step 4 – End in silent meditation. Simply dwell in God’s presence. Seek His guidance and feel His love and
power so you can say with confidence – Amen
